Christmas Traditions
From Our Home To Yours.
- We read the Christmas story of Jesus birth.
- We also read the Peppermint Story (below).
- We also read the “Lighted Candle Story” (below).
- After we read “The Lighted Candle Story, we pass a lighted candle for each of us to say a blessing that was given us throughout the year.
- We give each child three gifts; represented by the three gifts given to Jesus.
- When we decorate the tree we always have popcorn and chocolate covered cherries and we put up one ornament at a time to savor the occasion.
- We open the gifts one at a time. One person goes and picks a gift and hands it to the person, after that person opens his/her gift he/she goes and picks a gift and gives it to the person whose name is on it.
- We do not have a sit down dinner, we have a ham and hors d’ouerves to eat throughout the evening.
What is Your Tradition?
Email meThe Christmas Peppermint
Peppermint has long been a festive part of Christmas. Prized for its fresh fragrance and flavor, the plant recalls the purifying herbs of Biblical times. The sweet peppermint candy itself has become a symbol of Christmas. Its red and white adds cheery color to our holiday tables and decorations. The candy cane’s shape harks back to the Shepherd’s Staff, reminding us that Christ is the Good Shepherd for all men. This special interleaf with its peppermint scent carries the wish that you enjoy the merriment and peace that is the spirit of this season…may it surround you all year ‘round!
The Lighted Candle Story
God uses a messenger to bring every person the good news of God’s love and care. What sign helps us remember God’s good news? The lighted candle is such a sign. The candle’s brightness shines in the dark. It is like God’s word of love. One little act of love is like a candle of God’s good news.. It makes another persons life brighter. O God, help us get our hearts and minds ready for your coming into our lives. As we light the candles in our home, help us know that your message of love is for each of us. Then let us share the gift of your light by caring for others, in the name of Jesus, the Advent message. Amen.
