4am in the Morning

A Time I was Used by God

One day while I was at work I heard about a man I worked with who had been diagnosed with a serious cancer, and had been admitted into the hospital located near where I worked.

I knew this individual only because of conversations we had had over the phone regarding his retirement contributions, which I administered.

Within a day of hearing this information I was awoken at exactly 4am with an urgency to pray for this man. I didn’t go back to sleep but got up and went into work early, however before that, I went to the hospital where this man was admitted, to see if there was any way I could see how he was doing. All this was odd as I hadn’t ever seen him and only knew him by phone conversations, but I felt compelled to act on my feelings. I got to the hospital around 6:30am and asked if there was anyway I could talk to him. The first nurse looked at me as if I had three heads and said, “Unless you are family, absolutely not, he had a very bad night.” However, another nurse overheard, and asked how I knew him, and said, “Let me ask if he would be willing to see you.” She came back and said, “Yes, he said he will see you.”

I got into his room and he was on the phone. When he got off, I told him what I had experienced at 4am in the morning. He looked alarmed at what I said, and asked, “How did you know that I was a Christian?” “I didn’t,” I answered. He continued,” It was exactly at 4am when I finally had relief from the immense pain I was having throughout the entire night. They had given me every kind of drug imaginable to relieve the pain, but nothing worked, when at 4am the pain finally stopped.” He cried and I cried, and I asked if I could pray for him, and then I left.

I left my job in the next couple of months, and have never heard about him again. But, I do know that God used me specifically to help him one morning at 4am.
